NEW RECORD IS SET AS LOCAL LIMOUSIN BREEDERS TRIUMPH

Local Limousin breeders triumphed in the show and sale at United Auctions’ Stirling Bull Sales this week, which saw a new Centre record set for the breed.

The first week of Stirling Bull Sales were held from Sunday February 5 to Monday February 6 at a packed Stirling Agricultur­al Centre which welcomed pedigree breeders and commercial buyers from the length and breadth of the UK.

The world-famous event is supported by Galbraith, Scotland’s leading independen­t property consultanc­y.

At the sale on Monday afternoon, local breeder JR Macgregor, Dyke Farm, Milton of Campsie made one of the top prices when his Limousin bull was bid to 12,500gns. Dyke Saltire was bought by A&R Paton, Easter Greenhill, Avonbridge, Falkirk.

Four other bulls from the same herd went home to breeders in Ayrshire, Perthshire, Kelso and Campbeltow­n.

Meanwhile, Andrew Burnett of Upper Spittalton Farm, Blair Drummond achieved 12,000gns in the sale ring for Limousin bull Spittalton Scapa after securing the junior championsh­ip at Monday morning’s show. He sold to William Thomson & Son, Hilton of Beath, Fife.

Three further lots hit the five-figure mark, setting a new Limousin record average of £6689 for the Stirling Agricultur­al Centre.

The Spittalton herd had further success at the event with three other bulls sold to buyers from Fife, Kirkcudbri­ghtshire, and Blackwater­foot on the Isle of Arran.

Another champion was from R Dick, Mains of Throsk Farm who won intermedia­te champion for Ronick Sirlancelo­t. This bull sold for 8,000gns to the Firm of Doldy

Farm, Eastmill Farm, Glenisla, Perthshire with another three bulls from the same Stirling breeder sold to buyers from Carluke, Angus, and Inverness.

Making 7,500 gns in the sale ring was Lodge Slalom from Stirling-based breeder W&A Callion of Bolfornoug­ht Farm. He went to the Isle of Bute with A&M Robertson, Ballycurri­e Farm, Rothesay.

And D&L Graham, Mains of Burnbank Farm in Blairdrumm­ond were knocked down to 7,000gns for Burnbank Sydney by DS Stark & Sons, South Ballo, Inchture, Perthshire.

In total, 52 Limousin bulls were sold to a leading price of 15,000gns made by MJ Massie’s Elrick Shogun and paid by AC Fotheringh­am, Ballinloan, Dunkeld.

The breed’s new centre record average of £6689 is up £940 on the year with a clearance of 93 per cent.
