Duncan set for UFC bow with new promotion
Stirling UFC fighter Chris Duncan’s debut fight for the promotion took a big step towards becoming reality this week after his new opponent was revealed.
Duncan will be making his promotional debut at London’s O2 Arena in March.
The Tullibody scrapper was left in limbo after his original opponent withdrew from the bout shortly after it was announced. Heavy-handed Duncan is now set to take on Venezuelan Omar Morales.
Last month we told how the lightweight would face Polish fighter Michal Figlak as part of the UFC 286 pay-per-view in March.
However, just days after being announced the bout fell through when the Pole suffered an injury. That left Duncan sweating over his spot on the fight card.
Duncan, originally from Strathyre, has already flown to Florida to complete his final preparations at the famed American Top Team gym.
The explosive martial artist secured a contract with the UFC in spectacular fashion last summer. He jetted to Las Vegas where he fought on the Dana White Contender Series – a series in which hopeful fighters compete to try impress UFC boss White – where he faced American fighter Charlie Campbell. Duncan, nicknamed‘the Problem’, weathered an early storm, sustaining a number of hard punches and appearing to be badly hurt in the opening minutes of the first round.
However, refusing to accept defeat, Duncan responded to knock Campbell unconscious.
The spectacular victory was enough for the UFC president, Dana White, to hand the Scot the coveted UFC contract for his heroic performance.
The former Mclaren High School pupil previously gave up his job as a shepherd in Glen Lochay, near Killin, to take up the combat sport full-time.
