‘I owe you one’ hero tells partner

- STUART MCFARLANE

Last-gasp hero Greig Spence thanked strike partner Robert Thomson for laying his winner on a plate for him – before confessing he might not have done the same.

The January arrival took a while to be able to make his Binos debut, but has now thoroughly made his mark with a goal at East Fife on Saturday followed up by the 89th minute tap in to seal three points in Bonnyrigg on Tuesday evening.

The former Stenhousemuir and Alloa forward was in the right place to produce the finish in front of a jubilant

Binos support behind the goal after a tough evening which threatened to go south after Kevin Smith’s late equaliser for Rose.

Spence, who has spent last season with Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts after dropping out of the senior leagues, recently said he was ready to step back up to SPFL level and admitted he was left surprised by the din that greeted his goal as Albion kept their promotion tilt on track.

He said:“it did take me by surprise when the ball hit the net, the noise that was made and what was at stake.

“It’s only when you score a last-minute winner like that, you sort of remember that it’s a big support and it felt pretty good.

“Going for a league, there are going to be a lot of twists and turns, good moments and bad ones and I think the boys showed great character after losing a goal so late to dig in and get the winner.

“It would’ve been easy to say that a point away from home isn’t a bad result but credit to the boys, we kept going and I was there to tap in for the goal.”

The forward joked:“i just said to Rob that if that was me in that position, I would never pass it! I’m definitely due one for him after that but that shows the team spirit, it’s not about the individual, it’s about the group collectively and he rolled it on a plate for me so that I couldn’t miss really.”

It’s Annan Athletic next up for the Binos on Saturday, with the Galabank side boasting the league’s top goalscorer in Tommy Goss amidst their ranks – the former Queen of the South striker took his league tally to 18 after netting a goal in their 2-1 loss to Dumbarton last weekend.

Spence added:“i don’t think there’s an easy game in the league, it’s tough everywhere you go and Saturday will be no different so we just have to take each game as it comes and see how it goes.”

Kick off at Galabank is 3pm.
