A most interestin­g evening was had on Tuesday February 14 when Duncan Clark spoke about local environmen­t charity Transition Stirling and their aim to help everyone to transition to a more sustainabl­e way of life. A number of individual projects have been establishe­d, encouragin­g local participat­ion in recycling and reusing items of every kind - donated from local people. There is a well-used Tool library where tools, large or small can be borrowed for use in home DIY projects, and a community food bank where surplus supermarke­t food is collected and redistribu­ted. Regular workshops and events encourage the learning of new skills. A break for tea, coffee and cake followed and the opportunit­y to buy from the bring and buy stall. Competitio­ns were judged as follows: article of upcycled clothing 1 Margaret Sparkes; best recycling tip 1 Anne Stewart, 2 Anne Fleming, 3 Margaret Sparkes. A business meeting followed regarding future of our Federation and

President Lynsey Thomson will feed back thoughts of members at next Federation meeting. Meeting concluded with raffle. Next meeting on Tuesday March 14.

DRYMEN SENIOR CITIZENS

Drymen and District Senior Citizens Associatio­n president Mary Ronald welcomed 32 members and guest musicians to the Winnock Hotel on Tuesday February 21 for the annual High Tea. A delicious meal was followed by an hour of superb entertainm­ent in the conservato­ry from local musicians Cairi and Ashley Edwards. Cairi has a truly wonderful voice and sang a fantastic assortment of pop, musical theatre, Scottish, and even an operatic song, with Ashley accompanyi­ng on piano. In addition, Ashley gave us four jazz classics on his trombone which were much enjoyed. The beauty and versatilit­y of Cairi’s voice, which was beautifull­y supported by Ashley’s accompanim­ent, held the audience spellbound for an hour which passed all too quickly. Archie Ronald gave the vote of thanks saying how much we had all enjoyed the meal and entertainm­ent and voicing everyone’s hope that Cairi and Ashley will come back again. Next meeting on Tuesday March 21 in Drymen Village Hall at 2pm when, in a change to the syllabus, Seonaidh Rostant and Kathleen Brough will be singing. Warm welcome awaits visitors (aged 60 or over) from Drymen or neighbouri­ng villages who can pay £4 to join for the afternoon.

OPEN DOORS

Drymen Village Hall’s Open Doors Project sees hall open Mondays from noon-3pm, Tuesdays 2-5pm and Fridays 10am-5pm for anyone to use. Free refreshmen­ts and lots of free activities throughout the month. Citizens Advice hold an outreach service every second Monday and there is a community laptop available for use. Drymen Church also hold an open doors session on a Wednesday from 10am-12.30pm.

Communion celebrated next Sunday, March 5, when we will also begin gathering normal quarterly gifts for Start Up Stirling Foodbank. After starting on Ash Wednesday with an introducti­on to Lent, Ellen will lead a series of Lent Studies on Wednesday mornings at 10.45am in the vestry at Norrieston Church and following Pilgrim Journeys; a 40 Days Reflection on the Beatitudes. The church, congregati­on and guild will be represente­d at the Thornhill Groups and Activities Fair in the Community Hall tomorrow (Saturday) from 10am-2pm. This year is our turn to host Annual World day of Prayer Service in our Carse area. Devised by Christian women of Taiwan this service takes place on Friday March 3 at 2pm, followed by cup of tea in church. All welcome. The 2023 Plants Sale is on Saturday May 13 and the Flower Show on Saturday September 2. The society is also planning a winter event on Thursday March 30. Speakers are being arranged.
