Simmental bull figures up by £425 in a year

The Simmental bulls kicked off the sale day on the Monday morning with flying trade which peaked at 28,000gns and a further 13 lots hitting the five-figure mark.

A total of 97 Simmental bulls were sold to an average of £7,260. This is up £425 on the year with a clearance rate of 88 per cent and sets a new breed record average for a February sale.

The top-price Simmental bull was also the overall champion in the Sunday judging from Alan Wilson, 78 Castlewell­an Road, Rathfrilan­d, County Down. Bannhill Farm Masterpiec­e 21 was bid to 28,000gns by MH Kilpatrick, 91 Dromore Road, Banbridge, Northern Ireland.

Second best at 20,000gns was from Richard and Rhys Rogers, 13 Race Road, Portglenon­e, Ballymena, Northern Ireland for Hiltonstow­n Matrix 21, selling to A King, Wolfstar, Ormiston, East Lothian.

The junior champion bull, Islavale Mufasa 21, from WS Stronach & Partners, Berryleys Farm, Grange, Keith sold for 16,000gns to Barker & Borlase Ltd, Sacombe Hill Farm, Watton at Stone, near Hertford.

Backmuir Moonshine 21 achieved 15,000gns for Reece and Andrew Simmers, Backmuir Farm, Keith and went to Leicester with buyers CR Fovargue Brothers, Bottom Farm, Farm Town, Coleorton, Coalville.

The reserve overall champion Blackford Mars 21 from WG Macpherson, Blackford Farm, Croy, Inverness was bid to 14,000gns by WJ & J Green, Corskie, Garmouth, Fochabers, Moray-shire. Another bull from the Blackford herd, Blackford Mosby sold for 12,000gns to Sam Driver, 9 Sandy lane, Chisworth, Glosop, Derbyshire.

A joint bid at 14,000gns was made for Kilbride Farm Morikawa from WH Robson & Sons, 106 Cogry Road, Doagh, Ballyclare from D Sapsed, High Heath Farm, Codicote, nr Hitchin, Hertfordsh­ire and T Hill, 1 Mill Farm, Daw Lane, Wadworth.

The same breeder also sold to 13,000gns. Kilbride Farm Merlin 21 was bought by R Mcculloch, Over Hill House, Armadale, West Lothian.

A second bull was bid to 13,000gns. This was for Corskie Match 21 from WJ & J Green, Corksie, Garmouth, Fochabers paid by AC Burke, Nether Stewarton Eddleston, Peebles.

Selling at 12,000gns was Denizes Magic 21 from M A Barlow & Sons, Four Oaks, Ulnes Walton Lane, Leyland. He was bought by RI & GI Davies, Penlanlwyd, Cefn Gorwydd, Llangammar­ch Wells, Powys, Wales.

The Wolfstar herd from A King, Wolfstar, Ormiston sold two bulls to 11,000gns. The first was for Wolfstar Mustang 21 going to Orkney with GT & S Coghill, Muce, Birsay. The second bull at 11,000gns was Wolfstar Moves Like Jagger 21 selling to Garvals Mains Farm, Garvald, Haddington, East Lothian.

A third Wolfstar bull, lot 31 Wolfstar Meatball 21, sold for 10,000gns to Philiphaug­h Estates, Philiphaug­h, Per A Cowan, Old Mill Farm, Selkirk.

Another bull bid to 10,000gns was from Laura Green, Corskie Farm, Garmouth, Fochabers. Garmouth Matt 21 sold to A Strachan, Clochie, Lethnot, Brechin, Angus.
