For far point could make all the difference

-

Striker Dale Carrick admits Stirling Albion had enough chances to win three games in their draw against Forfar – but still believes it could prove a valuable point come season’s end.

The Binos striker was part of a front line left frustrated by a combination of bad luck and good goalkeeping as they wasted a host of glorious chances in a first half that their manager believed was one of their finest all season.

Carrick himself dragged one shot wide from the edge of the area during Stirling’s most dominant spell of the game, but they were unable to capitalise and then the action petered out in a much more even second period.

A victory would have taken Stirling to the top of the table after Dumbarton’s weekend loss to Elgin City, with the Sons now extending their lead at the top back to five points with a Tuesday night win over Stenhousemuir.

Carrick said:“i think we had enough chances to have scored in three games to be honest but it’s positive because we played really well in that first half and it’s credit to Forfar for sticking in there and getting the rub of the green.

“The most important point is just continuing to get more points on the board and keep the pressure on.

“The biggest thing is the connection that we have built up within the group. We’ve got good banter right across the boys and we have a good laugh but when we need to be serious, then we can be. There is a good mix of older heads and younger ones coming through.”

The match at Station Park ended a marathon run of a month on the road for the Binos, beginning with the away clash at East Fife and taking them to Bonnyrigg and Annan ahead of the trip to Angus.

Stirling remained unbeaten during that tricky spell, with Carrick keen to emphasise the importance of the work done in pre-season to ensure the squad was able to perform at a high level .

He added:“it shows our level of fitness. We do our runs on a Tuesday and we have kept that going all the way through and had a right good pre-season under the belts so our fitness is a strength and that helps.”

Stirling return to Forthbank on Saturday for the visit of Albion Rovers – with whom they have traded a pair of 1-1 draws in their first two encounters so far this season.
