FISHING SWANSWATER
Most of the week was cold and overcast with some overnight frosts.
There were occasional sunny spells when things warmed up a little but there was always a cool breeze. With the water temperature sitting around 4 or 5C all week, the fish were generally quite deep in the water although there were times when they were to be found only about six inches below the surface, especially in the Dam area.
Otherwise, they were well spread out on the main pond with the Island sometimes a bit of a hotspot.
Some cracking Blues and Tigers were landed this week, and with the Brown Trout season not far away, it was good to hear of an overwintered Brown being caught and released on Swanswater. Black, red, and silver were the favourite colours this week with the most successful fly patterns including Buzzer, Hummungus, Egg, Cat’s Whisker, Dancer, Damsel, Cormorant, Diawl Bach, PTN, Bibio, and Kate Mclaren.
Those fishing on the bait pond had most luck with power bait and spinners.
The fishery is open from 8am to 5pm every day except Thursday when we close at 2.30pm
Amongst the best bags on the fly ponds were: Danny Doherty 5 for 18lb 8oz including 6lb 4oz Rainbow and 2 Blues; Charlie Price 3 for 11lb 8oz including 6lb Rainbow; Donald Mcmurchy 5 for 13lb including a Blue; Callum Mcmillan 3 for 12lb 8oz, plus 1 C&R; Robert Rankin 3 for 9lb 12oz, plus 4 C&R; Archie Fisher 3 for 8lb 8oz; Steve Salmon 2 for 5lb; Robert Smith and Alistair 2 for 4lb 12oz, plus 4 C&R; Sam Wilson caught and released 13 including a Tiger; Alan Harrison caught and released 11; Will Hastings caught and released 9; Stuart Malcolm jnr caught and released 6 in the Meadow Pond; Jordan Morrison caught and released 5; Ben Oliver caught and released 5; Mike Palmer caught and released 5; Thomas O’neil caught and released 5; Paul Ryder caught and released 4; Stuart Malcolm caught and released 2 including 5lb Brown.
Those doing well on the Millpond included: Scott Young 3 for 6lb 8oz; Lewis Miller 3lb Rainbow; David Murray 3 for 8lb 8oz; Fraser Scott 3 for 7lb; Doug Shepherd 3 for 6lb.
