Stirling Blues singer Greig Taylor’s new album was three years in the making, but he believes it is well worth the wait.

‘The Light’, Greig’s fifth studio album, features double-grammy nominated American Soul Singer Earl Thomas on the track ‘Born to Love You’ which was released as a single last year.

And Greig and his band will showcase the album at the city’s Tolbooth next Friday, March 24.

Greig commented this week: “There were times I thought the album would never be finished.

“It has taken a long time because we used different producers, but Roddy Mcilwraith from Glasgow was the only one who managed to capture the sound we were after.

“At one stage Roddy was ill so we went elsewhere because we didn’t know when he would be up and running again.

“That didn’t work out for us unfortunately, but the good news was Roddy came back to say he was good to go.

“We now have an album we as a band and myself are personally very happy with.

“To be honest, I consider it my best ever work.”

Favourite tracks for Greig are the title track ‘The Light’ and ‘Born to Love You’ which as well as featuring a Earl Thomas also has real brass.

Greig’s influences include singers Joe Cocker, Otis Redding and Doors’ frontman Jim Morrison as well as The Beatles.

The former Bannockburn High School pupil said: “The new album is more Soul based as opposed to straight Blues, although we still have some great Blues numbers on there.

“Some of these songs are very personal to me and were written during a turbulent time in my life.

“The band have helped shape the numbers into what they ended up sounding like.

“It has been a joy to work with such highly regarded musicians on this, my fifth, studio album.”

The band features former Marianne Faithfull and Big Dish guitarist Brian Mcfie, drummer Dave Cantwell (formerly with legendary singer-songwriter John Martyn), Nelson Mcfarlane (bass) and Dave Cowan (keyboards).

Fans at the Tolbooth on Friday March 24 can expect an evening of full-on Blues rock as Greig Taylor Band take the album on the road with further dates at Bathgate, Falkirk and Glasgow.

Greig said: “It’ll be an evening of rocking Blues for sure.

“Our friends and support Stormchaser are also a Blues based band.

“After such a tumultuous and uncertain time in the music industry we are very much looking forward to getting this album out there and pushing on.”

Tickets for the Tolbooth gig, priced £15, are available at the box office 01786 274000.
