Cabins plan for tennis star’s Cromlix estate

-

Woodland cabins are the latest feature being proposed for Andy Murray’s Cromlix estate near Dunblane.

The five-star hotel recently reopened after being closed for refurbishment for three months.

However, now the tennis star’s company Cromlix House Hotel Ltd has submitted an application to Stirling Council planners for nine woodland cabins to provide extra guest accommodation, as well as parking and roads construction.

The 15-bedroom hotel near Kinbuck, which was bought by Andy and Kim Murray in 2013, had already been upgrading bedrooms, bathrooms and communal areas – including the award-winning restaurant – as well as new landscaping and planting.

Situated in 34 acres of private grounds, the hotel also features a self-catering lodge house, a chapel, loch, kitchen garden and tennis court.

The proposed cabins would be located north of the hotel within established woodland.

In documents submitted with the application, agents for the company said:“the site location provides a discreet and self-contained landscape framework separate from the hotel, with lochan, paths and routes for guests and visitors to explore, relax and enjoy the surroundings.

“The design principles adopted for the cabins have focused on several aspects of the project’s key aims and intentions: site specific cabins with bespoke designs; renewable and low-carbon initiatives; low visual and environmental impact; and localised procurement and delivery. The customer journey to the woodland area will use the existing road network with car parking provision adjacent to the hotel. Access to the cabins beyond this point will be provided by hotel‘buggy’ (electric) transport or on foot by connecting cabin approach paths as extensions to the existing path network.

“The cabins offer guests with a choice of accommodation, from the one bedroom Treetop, two bedroom Lochan and Woodland, to the luxury Retreat Cabin with three bedrooms and additional two bedroom guest wing.

“The overall project proposals will contribute to the business case for the emerging Cromlix vision that is currently being developed and delivered as part of an ongoing economic and creative investment for its future.”
