Pick litter to clean up city streets
Businesses urged to help
The Go Forth Stirling team are spearheading a major drive to spring clean the city’s streets and improve the environment.
They’ve organised litter-picking sessions as part of the annual Spring Clean Scotland campaign and are urging business owners and residents to join their efforts.
The Keep Scotland Beautiful initiative, which runs from March 17 until April 17, asks volunteers to roll up their sleeves and organise or join litter picks as well as completing litter surveys for Spring Clean Scotland 2023.
Go Forth Stirling BID, whose team of Street Ambassadors regularly tackle the scourge of litter and graffiti in the city centre, are coordinating three community clean-ups over the next few weeks.
Danielle Mcrorie-smith, project director at Go Forth Stirling, said: “Keeping the city centre as clean and tidy as possible is one of the main duties of our ambassador team, Gail Lamb and Josie Brown, whose passion, dedication and hard work never ceases to amaze us.
“They always strive to show Stirling in the best possible light and have been making real inroads in tackling graffiti and rubbish.
“Now, once again the BID is supporting the annual Spring Clean Scotland campaign by organising clean-up sessions and encouraging local people and business owners to get involved and join us in keeping Stirling clean.
“We are running three litter-pick mornings and will also be removing graffiti, stickers and carrying our other small maintenance tasks around the city during the initiative.
“And by the end of the campaign, we hope to have plants back in the barrier planters in the city centre which will really give Stirling a boost.”
She added: “One of the BID’S major areas of focus is to create a cleaner, greener and more inviting city centre with the goal of increasing footfall by bringing more visitors into Stirling.
“We hope the 2023 Spring Clean Scotland campaign will help us achieve that aim.”
The first clean-up session took place yesterday (Tuesday) focusing on the Top of the Town area meeting at the Old Town Jail and moving up towards Stirling Castle.
Another event will be held on Tuesday, March 28, covering Cowane Street, Goosecroft Road and surrounding areas and volunteers should meet at the Travelodge (Goosecroft Road) at 10am.
The third session is on Tuesday April 4 from 10am until noon and will tackle the Forthside area, including Forthside Way and the waterfront, meeting in front of the Vue Cinema.
Volunteers should bring gloves and the Go Forth team will provide bin bags and litter-pickers.
Anyone planning on taking part should let the BID team know in advance via admin@ goforthstirling.co.uk so they can prepare refreshments.
Go Forth Stirling is the city’s BID (Business Improvement District) representing more than 600 business owners with a key objective of increasing visitors to the city and devising initiatives to help make it a more welcoming destination for businesses and shoppers.
