At our most recent meeting in the village hall on Tuesday March 14, rural member Anne Robb treated us to a superb demonstrat­ion in which she produced three different canapes – watercress roulade; coronation chicken; and smoked salmon pate. Throughout the demonstrat­ion Anne’s running commentary included lots of little tips and recommenda­tions gleaned through many years of experience. There were enough canapes produced to allow us all some samples. Winners of the competitio­ns were: Three Empire biscuits 1 Margaret Bennie (Mary Mcgregor salver) 2= Eileen and Gladys 3= Jan Macd and Phyllis; Favourite egg cup 1 Ellen 2 Melanie 3 Gladys. Next meeting Tuesday April 11.

Drymen Village Hall’s Open Doors Project sees hall open Mondays from noon-3pm, Tuesdays 2-5pm and Fridays 10am-5pm for anyone to use. Free refreshmen­ts and lots of free activities throughout the month. Citizens Advice hold an outreach service every second Monday and there is a community laptop available for use. Drymen Church also hold an open doors session on a Wednesday from 10am-12.30pm.

Annual exhibition of embroidery and textile art by members of Strathendr­ick Stitchers in Drymen Library from until April 11 during normal library opening hours. All types of stitching are represente­d, from cross stitch to gold work and black work. LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY

Drymen Local History Society last meeting of 2022-23 session will be members night on Thursday April 27 in Drymen Village Hall at 7.30pm, preceded by cheese and wine at 7pm. The society meets on the fourth Thursday of the month from September-november and January-april. Membership £10 per annum, giving free entry to all talks (special reduced rate £5 for Januaryapr­il). Visitors welcome, £3 per talk.

SENIOR CITIZENS

The rain on Tuesday did not deter Drymen & District Senior Citizens Associatio­n members from coming along for a musical afternoon with singers Seonaidh Rostant and Kathleen Brough who were accompanie­d on keyboard by our secretary Linda More. The ladies gave a wide variety of well-known and well loved tunes and the audience sang along in fine voice. Jim Miller, in his vote of thanks, said it was obvious from the smiles of the audience that everyone had very much enjoyed their afternoon. Next meeting is AGM on Tuesday April 18 in Drymen Village Hall at 2pm with music afterwards. As always folks from other villages can come along and pay £4 as a visitor - a warm welcome awaits.

ART CLUB

Drymen Art Club holds classes in the village hall on Wednesday afternoons from 1-4pm and anybody with an interest in drawing and painting is welcome to join. The club appointed multi-media artist Iain Mcaulay as tutor during the year and he is on hand to offer guidance and encouragem­ent.

LADIES NIGHT

West Stirlingsh­ire Friends of Strathcarr­on Hospice annual ladies dinner in aid of the hospice takes place on Friday May 5 in the Winnock Hotel, Drymen. Evening consists of a welcome glass of bubbly, a three course meal and entertainm­ent by Barbara Bryceland. Also a raffle and some amazing prizes up for grabs. The Minister, the Rev Ellen Larson Davidson, leads Morning Worship this Sunday, Fifth Sunday in Lent, at 10am. Everyone welcome to join in and to join members of the congregati­on after service for tea and coffee and good fellowship. Service also accessible online. This week’s Lent walk will leave tomorrow (Saturday) from Buchlyvie Church at 10am. Afterwards walkers, and nonwalkers, are bidden to a coffee morning in Buchlyvie Village Hall. Next walk on Saturday April 1 will be around Gartmore and will leave from the Church at 10am. Lent Studies on the Beatitudes, led by the Minister, continue in Norrieston Vestry at 10.45am and are also accessible on Zoom. The discussion is always interestin­g and far ranging. The Food Bank Box in the church vestibule is filling up again and it would be good to have a push to fill it to the top before it is taken to the Startup Stirling base before Easter and school holidays. Clock warning - this Sunday is the official start of Spring and it should be noted that those who have failed to turn their clocks forward may be too late for all but the last hymn. Her topic is entitled ‘Delightful, Deranged, De-lovely’ and is about exotic plants from around the world and their stories. Everyone welcome.
