Mart’s cattle show scoops top results
Caledonian Marts Ltd held their April Show and Sale recently with 704 Cattle Forward, kindly sponsored by Western Pickup Truck Centre.
Judging was in the hands of well-known Yorkshire farmer Mark Crapper of New Grange Farm, Barnsley.
The results were as follows:
• Class 1: Single Bullock - 1st & Overall Champion, A Dunn, Redhall 555kg £1940 to The Judge; 2nd M Campbell, Glenstockdale 390kg £1300, 3rd A Dunn, Redhall 455kg £1420;
• Class 2: Single Heifer - 1st & Reserve Champion, A Dunn, Redhall 515kg £1790, 2nd J & D Mitchell, Offers 410kg £1300, 3rd J & D Mitchell, Offers 395kg £1260;
• Best Pen of 4 Bullocks: M Campbell, Glenstockdale 401kg £1280;
• Best Pen of 4 Heifers: R Mcnee, Woodend 437kg £1300.
A spokesperson said: “Caledonian Marts would like to thank Mark for travelling up and taking responsibilities of judging.
“Also a big thank you must go to Western Pick Up Truck Centre for sponsoring the show.
“Bullocks averaged 298ppkg and sold to 384p for a pen of Charolais from A Crozier, Lochdrum, Bonnybridge and to a new record for Store Cattle here at The Cally of a whopping £2160 for Salers from J & J Brown, Loanrigg, Slammanan.
“Heifers averaged 284ppkg and sold to 348p for the Reserve Champion from A Dunn, Redhall, Gargunnock and to £1790 for the same beast.
“Black & Whites sold to 285ppkg from G Aitken, Cowdens Dunduff and to £1130 for a pen of 42 British Friesians from Balgreggan Farms, Stoneykirk, Stranraer.”
