Tourism director is appointed
A new Forth Valley tourism regional director has been appointed by Visitscotland.
Lynsey Eckford, who has 20 years experience in tourism and hospitality, has stepped into the role which will see her work with stakeholders and partners across the Stirling, Clackmannanshire and Falkirk areas.
She said she is keen to engage with communities throughout the region and find ways to support the growth of the visitor economy.
Lynsey commented: “Many come to Forth Valley to enjoy the attractions, history and nature so the more that we can do to encourage them to visit responsibly, the better the experience for everyone.
“I’m passionate about responsible tourism, especially how it can be used to protect this area’s scenery and landmarks for future generations while boosting the local economy.
“I am looking forward to working with stakeholders to facilitate community led tourism as we continue to help visitors make responsible choices whilst here.
“Our Visitscotland icentre teams in Stirling and Aberfoyle play an essential part in this goal. The staff provide invaluable information and support for old and new visitors as well as locals when the need arises.
“The Aberfoyle icentre is fast becoming a busy hub with a special late night shopping evening last Christmas and more events to come so make sure you pop in for a look and to say hello.”
Lynsey added that a new Regional Economic Strategy put together by Clackmannanshire, Falkirk, and Stirling Councils will “set out a bold vision for the region and outlines how each council will embrace their unique opportunities, tackle any particular challenges, and ensure that the economy grows sustainably and inclusively, giving residents the chance to achieve positive participation and outcomes.”
And she pointed to the historic Sir Walter Scott Steamship returning to Loch Katrine’s waters this spring after a £750,000 restoration, Slackbrae, a new self-catering cottage on the historic Brucefield Estate in Clackmannanshire – scoring a five-star rating on its first assessment, as well as Stirling Castle’s part in a recent Visitscotland Great Days Out campaign.
Lynsey said: “I am thrilled to be a part of the Visitscotland Forth Valley team and really look forward to working with the local industry and communities to continue these successes.
“Partnership and collaboration are at the heart of Scottish tourism and help us strike a balance that allows communities to flourish whilst also benefitting from tourism.
“This is one of the prime focuses of my role and the role of Visitscotland in Forth Valley.”
