A Stirlingshire trio recently took on the West Highland Way trek for specialist disability charity Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus (SBH) Scotland.

We’re just delighted and proud that we’ve been able to raise so much money Nikki Murray

Nikki Murray along with Michael Warnock and Danny Holwell wanted to support SBH Scotland after Michael’s much loved Uncle Chic, who lived with spina bifida, passed away last year.

As a tribute to Chic, the trio took on the 96-mile walk from Milngavie to Fort William, completing it in just five days and raising a fantastic £2,200 for the specialist charity.

The walkers wanted to fundraise for the other people in Scotland also affected by the lifelong, complex disabilities.

Armed with walking essentials of rucksacks, water, maps and determination, the challenge was completed in all weathers.

Nikki said: “The West Highland Way wasn’t easy over five days, there’s some tough terrain across the wild landscape with some very long days but it was all worth it.

“Because of Michael’s Uncle Chic, SBH Scotland is a charity which certainly holds a special place in his heart and we’re just delighted and proud that we’ve been able to raise so much money for them.”

SBH Scotland provide a lifetime commitment of support and information to anyone affected by the rare disabilities of spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus. Its dedicated clinical and support workers offer a range of services and workshops across Scotland including one-to-one support in home, hospitals and schools, mental health counselling, a helpline, financial support, health and wellness clinics and support groups and outings.

Lynsey Hamilton, fundraising manager at SBH Scotland said; “We’re incredibly grateful to Nikki, Michael and Danny for all the effort they put into this challenge.

“We need to raise over £1 million each year to provide our range of dedicated support services for children, young people and adults across Scotland. This amazing donation will go towards supporting all those who ask for our help, thank you.”
