Average Stirling house is £260k

-

Average house prices in Stirling are the sixth-highest in Scotland according to new figures.

The latest survey for March from the Walker Fraser Steele chartered surveying firm has revealed an average property in the region is £260,825 - a rise of 6.4 per cent from the average of £245,188 recorded at the end of March 2022.

The highest average price is seen in East Renfrewshire, where an average home will cost £342,082, while the cheapest price is found in Inverclyde, which sits at £128,883.

The data also reveals Stirling is the second priciest of Scotland’s eight cities to purchase a home - behind only Edinburgh, where the average house price sits at £331,500.

Meanwhile, the largest year-onyear rise is seen in Clackmannanshire, where the cost of buying has risen by more than 15 per cent to £203,692 from £175,827 in March 2022.

It means that the Wee County has gone from 24th to 15th in the table for highest average house price.

However, further analysis reveals that this figure has been skewed by a £780,000 five-bedroom property in Dollar, with the region also vulnerable to volatile shifts in prices due to the low volume of transactions.

Scott Jack, Regional Development Director at Walker Fraser Steele, said: “Given the economic headwinds facing the Scottish housing market, this month’s data is all the more remarkable.

“Confidence generally in the market has held up relatively well with year-on-year house prices up by 1.3 per cent. Sales volumes too are improved on February this year and are up 36 per cent.

“The subsequent increase in demand for purchases has put the brakes on the slide in house prices that started in December 2022.”
