Music to mark 50 years of high school
Dunblane High School is preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
And the current staff and pupils are planning to hold a range of events to mark the momentous occasion for the school and for the community.
The school’s music team have moved quickly to put forward an exciting music event, with the community being invited to take part.
A spokesperson said: “We are inviting current pupils, former pupils, parents/carers, members of the community and school staff to come together and perform a variety of repertoire to celebrate 50 years of Dunblane High School.
“This will culminate in a short community concert to perform what we have learned. The two ensembles involved are choir and orchestra and the concert will take place on Thursday, October 5 from 7-8pm in the school atrium.”
In the lead up to the event there will be two rehearsal evenings – Thursday, September 21 from 6-8.30pm and Wednesday, September 27 from 6-8.30pm. Participants must attend a minimum of one rehearsal evening to take part in the concert.
“We aim to have as many singers and instrumentalists join us and have fun celebrating this occasion together,” added the spokesperson.“we have a lot of material to cater for all ability levels including violin 3. You may not have played your instrument or sung in a choir for a very long time and this is the perfect opportunity to come and have some fun.
“If you would like to take part please email coylea03s@glow.sch.uk and we will email you the sheet music for you to have a look at before our rehearsal evening.”
When the school opened on August 20, 1974 at the new building (phase one) at Anchors Cross, the headteacher was John Mccarron. It was officially named Dunblane High School and had an intake of only 246 young people.
