Albion dropping too many points on travels

- STUART MCFARLANE

Stirling Albion boss Darren Young conceded his side fell well short of their standards after another bruising defeat on the road at Hamilton.

Accies ran out comfortable 3-0 winners in a match where the Binos never really got to grips with things from the first whistle, with Kevin O’hara’s 20th minute opener followed by second-half strikes from Ahkeem Rose and Jake Hastie earning Accies the points.

It completes a particularly dire record for Stirling in their four away matches against League One’s top two sides.

In their matches at New Douglas Park and the Falkirk Stadium this season, Stirling’s record sits at four defeats, with 16 goals conceded and none scored.

They have also fallen to defeat 10 times on the road on league duty this season – the second worst record in the division.

Boss Young was disappointed in his side’s showing, especially after encouraging signs in their three matches against full-time opposition leading into the weekend. Young said: “The way we’ve played over the last three weeks. It was very disappointing.

“We never started well, we were sloppy giving away the penalty and Blair does well to save that but we give the ball away needlessly in the middle of the park and we get countered on and they score.

“We spoke at half time about still being in the game, but we didn’t trouble them enough and the parts of the team were too far apart and the balls up to the striker weren’t great so we don’t get up the park.

“We lost the second, created a couple of chances after we lost that goal and there were a few good moments of play where we need to make the goalie make a save but we didn’t and that was frustrating. At the end of it all, the best team won.”

Stirling have tasted victory against the league’s trio of full-time sides only once this season – a 1-0 win at Palmerston against Queen of the South back in October.

Young added: “After how well we played last week, it’s the same players, same formation so there wasn’t anything unusual from our point of view but we just need to play a lot better.

“We never kept the ball or passed it well, they were sharper and quicker than us to second balls.

“We showed we can compete against full-time teams in recent weeks, it’s just frustrating that we set our standards in those games and we’ve dropped below them today.

“If you drop below that standard against good teams like this, then you’re made to pay for it.”
