Jean calls it a day at age of 80!

-

ONE of the country’s oldest receptionists has finally hung up the phone at the ripe old age of 80.

Jean White began working at Ellesmere Medical Centre, Cheadle Heath, in 1969 and 46 years later has retired.

The much-loved greatgrandmother was given a fitting send off from her colleagues at the Stockport Road practice with a lunch out, presents and flowers. She is now planning to spend more time in the garden, visiting friends and reading.

Jean, who lives on Tenby Road, Cheadle Heath, has two sons, four grandchildren and a great grandchild.

She said: “I didn’t want to be in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest medical receptionist so realised it was my time to leave.

“But I was a bit emotional and will miss the companionship of my colleagues and the patients.

“To be a medical receptionist you need empathy and realise people are not ringing up to be a nuisance, make them feel comfortable and be diplomatic.”
