Dianna has royal approval

-

THERE are millions of girls with the same first name as the new Princess Charlotte – but few can claim to share all three.

So when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced they had named their baby Princess, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, one Stockport teenager couldn’t believe it.

Dianna Charlotte Elizabeth Whalley, 18, found herself inundated with messages on social media after the news broke on Monday.

Yet Dianna, who lives in Brinnington, isn’t quite so sure she and the little Princess will have that much in common.

She said: “The whole thing is really weird and mad.

“It sounds daft but feel like she’s stolen my identity. It’s not all bad though.

“I do quite like the Royal family and there can’t be many people out who share all three of their names with a princess.

“But that’s as far as the similarities go. I’m not a Princessy person at all.”

Like many children in the Eighties and Nineties, Dianna was named after the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

However, the Stockport Academy student has a slight variation after her dad misspelt her name.

She added: “It’s quite a funny story really.

“My mum told me I was named after Princess Diana, who was alive at the time, but my dad actually spelt it wrong.

“That’s why it is spelt with two Ns.

“I’m not crazy about being called Dianna so most people call me Di.”
