NOMINATIONS are coming in thick and fast for our second annual Manchester Schools Awards.

There are nine categories to choose from ranging from School Support Staff of the Year to Class of the Year.

This week we look at three more categories celebrating the very best of what our schools have to offer.

The

recognises a class or a whole school who makes it a priority to lead a healthy lifestyle.

This could be anything from exercising more, drinking more water, eating healthy foods or even grow- ing your own vegetables to use in the school kitchens.

All entries must explain the sort of menus you offer and what makes them healthy for your pupils.

Last year Moorfield Primary in Hazel Grove won the Healthy Living gong for its vegetable project.

The

will be given to a class, year group or school who demonstrate that they play an active role in their wider local community.

The school could be raising money for a local charity, getting involved with a neighbouring church, weeding a nearby allotment or helping elderly residents who live near their school.

North Chadderton School, in Oldham, was honoured for their charity work last year.

The pupils managed to raise a staggering £10,000 for the Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.

We’re also still looking for nominations for the

This category is open to all schools that have produced a newspaper or website that contains relevant news for their audience in 2013/2014.

The Abraham Moss Community School, in Manchester, scooped the award last year.

Remember you don’t have to be a teacher or a pupil to nominate. Parents, governors and members of the community are more than welcome to put their favourite schools forward.

To make a nomination all you need to do is complete a simple entry form and return it to us by Friday, May 29. You can download the application at manchesterschools awards.co.uk or email events department@ menmedia.co.uk or call the team on 0161 211 2188 for a printed form.
