Election fever hits at preparatory school
YOUNGSTERS at a Marple primary school have been creating and campaigning for their own political parties in the run up to the General Election.
As an extension of their life skills lessons, the 10 and 11-year-old pupils at Brabyns Preparatory School have been putting together their own policies and party manifestos in a bid for votes at the school’s own election.
They also received a visit from local candidates Michael Taylor (Labour), Darran Palmer (Ukip) and William Wragg (Conservative) who spoke to the children about their campaigns.
Teacher Julie Lawford said: “As voters of the future, children at Brabyns need to be aware of the election process, and what better way than to experience it for themselves?
“Projects such as this really help our children to feel prepared for the wider world. Good luck to all of the Brabyns election candidates.”
On Thursday (May 7) the year six classroom at the school on Arkwright Road will be transformed into a polling station, and all the pupils and staff will have the opportunity to vote for the best school party.
The results will be announced on Friday and the winning party leader will write to the new Prime Minister to tell them about the project and the fact that they have won.
