Foundation makes milestone

-

A CHARITY foundation set up in memory of a schoolboy who tragically lost his battle with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma at the age of just 12 has hit £200,000.

Alex Hulme passed away in 2011, just months after being diagnosed with the disease, and his family set up the Alex Hulme Foundation to fund research into the condition.

They now live in Sale but Alex’s dad Dave is originally from Hazel Grove and his mum Nicola is from Heaton Mersey, and both still have family in the areas.

Alex’s funeral took place at Hazel Grove United Reformed Church in September 2011.

Dave said: “We are so pleased to have reached £200,000 – when we first started the foundation our aim was to raise £5,000 , and it was beyond our wildest dreams to raise this much in three-and-ahalf years.

“We have been so lucky, with so many people getting involved and raising money. Humbled is a word we use a lot to describe how we feel.”

The foundation has also benefitted from being one of the Mayor of Stockport’s charities this year.

Dave added: “I have known the Mayoress, Kath Hogg, since I was born as we go to the same church.

“It has helped us in terms of fundraising, but also in terms of raising awareness, which is so much a part of what we are trying to achieve for Alex.

“We just want to register our thanks to everyone who has helped us.”
