Frustratin­g day for sides at all levels

IT was a frustratin­g day for the PS Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League as rain either prevented any play or forced an early abandonmen­t in many games.

In Division One, Broadbotto­m were hosting Compstall and were 126-3 before weather forced an early finish, Chris Cheetham-Roberts hitting 34 and Ryan Welsh 56 not out.

Play was also abandoned at Hawk Green but only after the home side had posted 202-5 against New Mills, Sam Messih with 49 and Pete Richards 79.

New Mills had only just started their reply and lost a wicket for no runs when the rains came.

No play at all was possible between Hayfield and Woodley.

Buxworth continued their fine start to the season in Division Two as they restricted visitors Offerton to 205-8, Joe Butler making 30 and Ian Bates 92 not out.

Buxworth then saw S Leatherbar­row score 31, Joe Hall 42 and N Critchlow a fine 84 not out as they romped to 207-4.

Newton were bowled out for 200 by visiting Hollingwor­th, Phil Hammond hitting 36 and Nick Tansella 32 as U Siddique taking 3-44 and Dave Morris 4-33.

Mike Knight then struck 38 not out in a score of 54-3 before rain forced an early finish.

Birch Vale had only scored 39-3 at High Lane before rain meant no further play was possible.

No play was possible in the game between Buxton and Hazel Grove.

Woodley hosted Hayfield in Division Three and were asked to bat first by the visitors, going on to score 211-3 thanks to 62 from P Cocks, N Braford with 47, C Wilson 37 and 38 from B Qasim.

Hayfield struggled in their reply as K Hayes took 4-47 to see the visitors 138 all out. Newton travelled to Hollingwor­th and scored a mammoth 253-7, Oliver Marrow hitting 56, J Mellor 47 and Andy Turner 63.

The rains came at tea to prevent further play.

No play was possible in the games at New Mills (versus Hawk Green) and Dove Holes (versus Broadbotto­m)

In Division Four, Hazel Grove batted first at home to Buxton and scored 180-6 in their 45 overs, Andy Oldfield making the most of being dropped on 4 to go on and score a magnificen­t 114.

Tim Budd then scored a gritty 52 but 3-16 from Joe Hall helped bowl the visitors out for just 106.

Charleswor­th posted 180-8 at Compstall, D Redfern hitting 61 and M Elliott 30 while the ever young Mike Hawkin took 3-37 and M Cooper 3-27.

In reply, Ned Attiyah scored 51, twin brother J Attiyah 33 and Fraser Heginbotha­m 30 not out but 3-18 from M Elliott helped restrict the home side to 142-7.

Whaley Bridge hosted Tintwistle and scored 158-6 thanks to an unbeaten 60 from Will McIlveen as J Patel took 3-40. A Thornhill then smashed 80 and M Lilley 57 not out as Tintwistle raced to 160-1.

Offerton batted first at home to Buxworth and were bowled out for 174 in the final over, A Anwan with 51 as J Winfield took 4-26.

Charlie Edwards then hit 77 for Buxworth as they reached their target for the loss of four wickets.

No play was possible in the game between Birch Vale and High Lane.
