Now is the time to get behind the Hatters to help them climb the table

-

I AM writing in response to Mr Gibbs’ letter regarding Stockport County.

You seem to think the club had a divine right to win Conference North because of a superior home crowd than the other teams.

It’s not the size of crowds that bring success rather the size of playing budget managers are given.

County could never compete with the likes of Barrow and Fylde (who finished first and second) as both these teams are bankrolled by wealthy owners.

The £7 you paid at Harrogate was probably the FA Cup match which would have been reduced prices anyway.

The experienced players are not talentless.

We have a fantastic goalkeeper in Danny Hurst and the centre-back pairing of Mark Lees and Steve O’Halloran were solid and consistent.

If we could have kept hold of our best midfield player I think we would have won more games than we did during the second half of the season.

To have a go at the younger players will do nothing for their confidence.

These lads have come through the development squad and whilst they may be raw, given time they will continue to develop into good young footballers.

The club had been scandalously mismanaged in the past.

Four words – legacy of inherited debt.

The current board are all business people working at County and not commanding any wage for doing so.

They are still having to pay off Tony and Mary Gibbons who threatened the club with a windingup order if they didn’t receive their money.

That is scandalous as it was on their watch that we were relegated out of the Football League.

The cost of running Edgeley Park each year is eye-watering and until the stadium is bought back, County remain having to pay rent to Brian Kennedy.

An upturn in results might bring some of the old crowds back but gamble with finances is reckless.

Fans deserve better than that.

I do agree with your last paragraph regarding the Supporters Trust.

All the guilty people involved know who they are, but do they care?

No, they are all long gone by now.

Get your facts right Mr Gibbs before you decide to have a go at our town’s football team who we as fans hold dear to our hearts. K Akram Woodley aren’t good enough to win it and they aren’t good enough to get relegated.

They shouldn’t keep signing players on loan as stability is important for the future.

Maybe Jesus should be the next manager as he is used to working miracles. Derek Potts Blackbrook Road Heaton Chapel enjoyed by all ages?

There are a lot of older residents who lives in the flats and have no space, it could be a sociable space and leftover produce used in the community cafe ‘Startpoint’? J Clarke Bredbury seek a new life in countries such as Saudi Arabia were their lifestyle would be closer to the country they have left.

It is time for Mr Tyres to change the page on his hymn sheet and find a new subject, such as the state of Little Underbank, and the litter and graffiti around Stockport. Peter N Roberts Longhurst Lane Mellor
