Multiple marathon challenge for Martyn

ADAD- OF-THREE is rounding off a year of endurance charity events with an incredible five marathons in five days.

Martyn Hague, 39, started the year-long fundraising mission 12 months ago and has raised over £10,000 for breast cancer awareness charity, Genesis.

The charity is close to Martyn’s heart after both his sister-in-law and mum have been affected by the disease.

Now Martyn is more determined than ever to complete his five marathon challenge after sisterin-law Kirsty was recently told her breast cancer had returned, and this time it was terminal.

Martyn said: “Both mum and my sister-inlaw, Kirsty, have had it and at the time we started this my sister-in-law had already been diagnosed twice.

“Unfortunately, during these last 12 months she has been re-diagnosed again and this time she was told it’s terminal.”

Kirsty helped Martyn decide what charity his efforts should go towards, and, after visiting the Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention team and The Nightingale Centre in Wythenshawe, knew they had made the right choice.

Martyn added: “Kirsty chose the charity because it really meant something to her.”

Martyn, from

Gatley, will be looking forward to a well-deserved rest after previously tackling the Manchester 10k, a bike ride from Barcelona to Nice, a 24-hour 50km team-run and the Manchester Marathon.

But wanting to donate every penny raised to the breast cancer awareness charity, Martyn personally pays to take-part in every event.

He added: “A lot of the time people do these things and what you raise goes towards actually paying for the activity, but I always pay to take part myself so every penny goes to the charity.”

But even with just a small amount of training, Martyn knows his determination to help fight a disease which has affected his family so much will see him reach the finish line.

He said: “It keeps me determined and focussed. I damaged my shoulder at the weekend and people were saying are you going to do the marathons and I instantly said yes.”

Martyn will be running the Windermere Marathon on May 17, and then a marathon each day next week with work colleagues.
