Youngsters take to the stage to show off their fancy footwork

-

DOZENS of youngsters thrilled crowds as they put on their first dance show.

Children aged four to 13 from DNW dance group – based in Brinnington and Offerton – performed at Stockport College’s Peter Barkworth Theatre.

The group, run by Natalie Dunworth, 21, from Offerton, formed a year ago and the event was its first public performance.

The free show contained street and contemporary dances for members of the public including friends and family.

Natalie said: “I was so proud of all the youngsters, I couldn’t believe how confident they were given it was their first performance.

“I was nervous in the run up but the kids were so happy to perform and seeing it made all the hard work worthwhile. It exceeded my expectations.

“It went really well and the parents were shocked by just how good they were. I was crying on the night to see how happy the parents were.”

The group meets at the Lapwing Centre, Brinnington, on Tuesdays from 4pm to 7pm and Offerton Community Centre, Mallowdale Road, on Thursdays from 4pm to 7pm.

More than 60 youngsters took part in the show, which needed 12 weeks of rehearsal.

The group will perform at Stockport Carnival, which takes place on July 25, and are planning a Christmas show.

It has received funding from the council’s You Say We Pay scheme, which allowed the Stockport College show to be free.

Natalie added: “There is no let up we have already gone straight into rehearsals for the carnival.

“There are plenty of talented youngsters in Brinnington and Offerton who don’t always get the chance how good they are but the group and its performances are giving them the stage to do just that.”
