Chancellor’s afternoon tea at village cafe

-

THE Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne dropped in for afternoon tea at a Bramhall cafe while on the general election campaign trail.

Mr Osborne was invited to the Fountain’s Road Bakery and Cafe for tea and cookies with the Bramhall Business Mum’s Networking Group by owner Jessica Sharp.

He was accompanied by Conservative candidate Mary Robinson, who has since been elected as the Member of Parliament for Cheadle.

During what was described as a ‘light hearted’ meeting the Chancellor served cookies to children before serving tea to the Business Mums and Mrs Robinson.

Cafe boss Jessica Sharp spoke to Mr Osborne about the benefits of extending tax credit scheme to children’s after school activities.

She made the point that many working mum’s work inflexible hours so spend a lot of money on keeping their children occupied once school is over.

Mr Osborne, who has since been named as First Secretary of State following his party’s victory at the general election, was clearly impressed with the suggestion.

He said: “I have been in hundreds of meetings regarding tax credits and absolutely no-one has ever mentioned that we should consider after school activities.

“I think it’s a very valid point and a brilliant idea.”

Fellow ‘Business Mum’ Wendy Green from ILoveBramhall.com also presented the Chancellor with an ‘I Love Bramhall’ mug and a bag of ‘goodies’.
