Stars are charity heroes

-

FORMER Manchester United star Phil Neville and his wife Julie joined in the fun to help launch this year’s Cash For Kids Superhero day.

The event, on Friday, will raise money for charity the Beechwood Cancer Care Centre.

CAPES and masks are at the ready for Beechwood Cancer Care Centre as they gear up for this year’s Key 103 Cash For Kids Superhero Day.

Listeners have been urged to get behind the charity fundraising day in aid of Beechwood’s family bereavement services on Friday and so far schools, businesses and various other organisations and individuals have been pledging to raise cash with events from cake sales to dress up days.

Kicking off the Superhero Day will be Key 103 breakfast show presenters Mike Toolan and Chelsea Norris, who is also a patron at Beechwood.

They will start the live show from 6.30am at the Virgin Media call centre in Wythenshawe where phone operators will be taking calls from donors.

Later in the morning the duo will be hopping into a helicopter – along with former Manchester United footballer and TV pundit Phil Neville and Corrie actress Brooke Vincent to visit lucky pupils across five schools in Greater Manchester.

Two other Key 103 presenters – Adam Catterall and Darren Proctor – will also be joining in with Superhero Day antics along with Corrie stars, Amy Kelly, who plays Maddie Heath and Katie McGlynn, who plays Sinead Tinker.

Between them they will be visiting various businesses and organisations, who have been supporting Cash For Kids.

All parties will then make a dash to Beechwood, where the show will continue to be broadcast live from 3.30pm with the big reveal of the amount of cash raised at 5.30pm.

Angela Gray, fundraising manager at Beechwood in Stockport, said: “Everyone at Beechwood is incredibly excited about Superhero Day, this is such a massive opportunity for us and the difference it will make to our family service is huge, we can’t wait to be involved and are calling all superheroes to get involved on the day.”

The Superhero Day got off to a flying start at the launch party held at UKFast in Manchester two weeks ago where more than £26,000 was pledged.

A host of celebrities attended the event including Beechwood’s latest patron and British Bakeoff star Luis Troyano, who lost his dad to cancer at 16, was well as Phil Neville and Neil Clough.

Chelsea Norris said: “The stories that come out of Beechwood speak for themselves as to why any money raised will be so important to the charity.”
