Theft from cars spree

-

MOTORISTS have been warned following a spate of thefts from cars.

The mini crimewave happened in Marple and Hazel Grove, with around nine vehicles targeted within a week.

All were broken into overnight, usually in the early hours of the morning, with an incident in Brabyns Park on May 11 the most recent. Other thefts happened in Ley Lane, Marple Bridge, and Napier Street, Hazel Grove, on May 9; Strines Road, Marple and Hatherlow Lane, Hazel Grove, on May 8; and Hollins Lane, Marple, on May 5.

Police say the thefts could even be the work of just one crook and items stolen include laptops, sat navs, golf clubs and tools.

Officers are now beefing up their presence in hotspot areas overnight.

Inspector Jim Lockett said: “We advise people to not leave goods on show and give thieves an easy opportunity. Patrols will challenge anyone who looks suspicious.”
