Discovering a love of the great outdoors

-

YOUNGSTERS headed into the cinema to rediscover a love of the great outdoors.

Education charity Into Film organised a special screening of the documentary Project Wild Thing.

The David Bond film hopes to pry youngsters away from the TV and computer screens to play outside.

Families were invited to cycle to The Plaza before the showing and then head down to Heaton Norris Park for some outdoor arts and craft activities. The charity also ran a competition for youngsters to review the film.

Project co-ordinator Rebecca Wolfendale said: “We wanted to give young people and their families an opportunity to come together as a community to discover the arts in their local environment and enjoy a film they might not otherwise see, with the chance to review it afterwards.

“It was a great day and we’re delighted so many people took part.”

More than 40 children and their families came along to the event, which took place on Saturday (May 9) with support from the Manchester Film co-operative and Sustrans.

It formed part of the Opening Minds, Transforming Lives project to help disadvantaged youths across the region.
