Little to cheer for Cheshire

- BOWLS JAMIE BRAMLEY

CHESHIRE Parks were in action on Sunday against British Parks Champions South Yorkshire.

The home leg at Ladybridge in Cheadle Hulme was a bit of a disaster with the hosts mustering just a single winner. Howard Thomas proved the only winner.

Away from home at Wadsley House, Jonathon Chapman registered a cool 21-14 success for the away side to give Cheshire a real boost. Despite a rake of respectable double figure scores, Cheshire couldn’t add to their single winner home and away.

Greater Manchester, last season’s runners up, got their campaign off and running with a 17-14 win over a very strong North Derbyshire outfit.

The Adshead Cup started on Tuesday with very few shocks and most of the higher division teams progressing. There was a surprise in store for Nursery A, however, who were left stunned by a resurgent High Lane Conservatives Club.

Also picking up a scalp of higher division opponents were Woodley Sports who staved off New Mills. LMRCA and Victoria (1) had a mighty tussle on a beautiful surface at Houldsworth WMC. Graeme Edwards held his nerve at the finish to see off Billy Waddington and aid Victoria to a narrow five chalk victory.

In the latest round of games in the Stockport Parks League Houldsworth Norris went top of the pile. Terry Gale sauntered home 21-3 to catapult Norris to a 137-127 victory over South Reddish Park. Bank Holiday Monday will see a top class field of 32 bowlers at Houldsworth WMC on Leamington Road in Reddish.

The Freddie Hulme Memorial in recognition of one of the games biggest characters takes place. There are a couple of spaces still available, £25 entry win one game to get your money back contact Houldsworth WMC for details.
