Aspinall inspires Hawk to victory

IT was a windy day across all matches in the PS Derbyshire & Cheshire Cricket League but the rains stayed away to allow all games to be played to a conclusion

In Division One Hawk Green batted first at home to Whaley Bridge and finished on 198-9 with Ben Aspinall hitting 48 and B Cartledge 39 as C Holden took 5-63.

Whaley Bridge then came up just short as they closed on 169-9, H Holden with 79 and D Bell 35 as Mark Richards 5-42.

Woodley travelled to Old Glossop and closed on 172-7, Harrison Webb with 35 and J Trowsdale and H Rippon both unbeaten on 55 and 38 respective­ly as Matt Woodcock took 5-23.

J Wright then hit 43 for Old Glossop but 4-38 from Connor Cramwell saw the home side bowled out for 141.

There was a derby at Broadbotto­m where the leagues top side enter- tained rivals Mottram. The home side batted first and made 203-9 as Ryan Welch hit 53 and Rick Barron 48 while Mike Scott bowled 23 overs taking 5-82 with Ryan Nixon taking 4-54.

Mottram then saw R Fitton hit 66 and Liam Tongue 81 not out to see them to victory at 205-3. Compstall were restricted to 159-7 by visiting New Mills, Stuart Bass with 42 as Dave Ward took 3-11. Ashley Burgess then struck 78 and J Duckworth 33 as New Mills romped to 1614, Dylan Hegginboth­am taking 4-47.

Hadfield had a day to forget as they were bowled out for just 67 by the visiting Dinting, Rudolph Liebenberg taking 3-24, Jon Coleman 4-9 and Peter Hills 3-5.

Greg Harwick was then unbeaten on 34 as Dinting cruised to 71-2.

Hayfield batted first at Tintwistle and were bowled out for 125 as J Pool took 4-49 and Martin Harris 4-43.

D Weatherhea­d then anchored the home sides innings with 75 as Tintwis- tle made 129-7, M Hill taking 3-29.

It was a thrilling finish at Buxworth in Division Two where the home side were bowled out for 188 by Hazel Grove, James Gemmell hitting 54 as Dom Nunn took 5-75 and Ian Halford 4-45.

Andy Thurston then hit 32, Rick Burke 33 and Geoff Noden 81 not out as Hazel Grove closed on their target but an exquisite piece of ground fielding by Sam Hall set the tone for the last few overs where boundaries were hard to come by and it was a bye the last ball to which tied the game, Dan Gilbride taking 4-55.

Chapel were bowled out for 130 at home to Hollingwor­th, M Wagstaffe with 31 and O Cook 35 while M Asim took 4-26 and Dave Morris 4-33.

Asim then struck an unbeaten 74 supplorted by 31 from Dec McNee to see the visitors to 131-8, J Jackson taking 4-66 and Keith Hallam 4-61.

Charleswor­th had a day to forget as they elected to bat at home to Birch Vale and were bowled out for just 61, R Johnson taking 3-10 and J Kennedy 4-19.

Birch Vale then lost 7 wickets as they also struggled eventually reaching 62-7 as Jonny Wardle took 4-17.

High Lane posted 150 all out at home to Offerton, Fred Barlow top scoring with 36 as M Hudson took 3-21 and W Akram 6-61. Josh Noel then took 5-30 as Offerton were 87 all out.

There was a low scoring game at Newton where Buxton were bowled out for just 57, Sam Stephens taking 3-16 and J Cragg 5-22. Newton then reached their target for the loss of 3 wickets.

In Division 3 Hadfield won the toss and elected to bat at Dinting and were soon all out for 127, R Maniak making 33 and J Nicholson 50 as C Wyche took 3-28 and E Walsh 4-32. Dinting then saw james Brotherton score 42 and Matt Coleman 73 not out as they finished 130-1.

Newton posted 190-9 batting first at Hayfield with M Stringer making 69 and T pottage 40 while G Goodall took 3-34 and H Wood 3-24. Hayfield then romped to victory as David Aldridge hit an unbeaten 101 and J Burgess 68.

Hawk Green were 134 all out batting first at Hollingwor­th, Luke Young finishing 35 not out as V queshi took 4-41. Queshi then hit 60 and A Tindall 32 as Hollingwor­th closed on 138-7, Jack Needham taking 3-45 and B Holme 3-22.

Mottram were bowled out for 160 by visiting Broadbotto­m as P Broscombe hit 87 while Gaz Whitney took 4-24 and D Perrin 3-40.

Broadbotto­m then lost 7 wickets in reaching 162 as M Greenhalgh scored 42 and D Perrin 45 as C Megran took 3-44.

Dove Holes travelled to New Mills and were bowled out for 116 as James Stevens took 5-24. D Walker then took 4-28 and C Flynt 5-16 as New Mills collapsed to 58 all out.

Woodley smashed 208-4 batting first at home to Old Glossop, S Richards making 63 and L Goodwin 75. J O’Malley then took 3-29 as Old Glossop were bowled out for just 119.

Birch Vale posted an imposing 243-9 batting first at home to Charleswor­th in Division Four, A Johnson with 119, A Green 39 and R Barrett 43 while Steve Marren took 3-44 and S Gilham 5-44. Charleswor­th then closed 34 short on 209-8, D Verdi scoring 46 and D Refern 78 while T Johnson took 3-31.

Buxworth travelled to Hazel Grove and were bowled out for 162, T Dodds making 42 batting at 9 as M Burnard took 3-28.

Marc Wilkinson then scored an unbeaten 32 but it wasn’t enough to prevent Hazel Grove finishing 11 runs short on 151-7. High Lane made the short trip to Offerton and posted a formidable 253-4 thanks to a magnificen­t 110 from Pat Firth and 71 from O Siddique.

S Pickles then hit 35 for the home side but M Waqas took 3-38 to help bowl Offerton out for 141.
