IT may be a little early to start planning for Christmas - but preparations are already underway for this year’s pantomime at Stockport Plaza.

The theatre officially launched this year’s show, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, on Wednesday.

The star studded cast includes Dean Sullivan, best known for playing Jimmy Corkhill in Brookside for almost 20 years.

Dean will be transforming into the dame, Nurse Glucose, for the pantomime, which is scheduled to run from Friday, December 4 to Sunday, January 10.

He will be joined by theatre stalwart and ‘Allo ‘Allo star Kim Hartman, who shot to fame playing Helga in the popular BBC comedy of the 80s and 90s, in the role of the Wicked Queen.

Kim previously appeared at the Plaza in 2006 alongside former ‘Allo ‘Allo cast mate Vicki Michelle.

She says she relishes the chance to play the show’s baddie.

She said: “I absolutely love to play the baddie, it’s such terrific fun.

“I just love the fun of pantomime - it’s something that dates back to the 18th century, some of those set pieces and comedy routines have been handed down from father to son.

“I love that tradition, and getting to dress up is every girl’s dream.”

Dean says playing the dame is something of a departure for him, as he is more used to playing pantomime baddies.

He said: “Not every actor can do pantomime. Some friends have told me they just wouldn’t have the wherewithal to do it,

“It’s a very particular style, but it’s great fun.

“It has to be as you’re working over Christmas when everyone else is off.

“We work hard and make sure everyone is enjoying themselves.”

Becky Bennett, who appeared in Cinderella at the Plaza last year in the eponymous role, is returning to play the role of Snow White this year.

Becky said: “I love it here. Everyone is so friendly. It’s going to be a great, feel-good family show.”

She is joined by ITV’s Grease is the Word finalist Bradley Clarkson as Prince Rupert, and Bradley Thompson, 22, as Muddles the Jester.

The Liverpool Media Academy graduate said: “The energy comes from the audience.

“You get nervous waiting to go on, but as soon as you see them it turns into energy.”
