Man, 89, is found dead in kitchen fire tragedy
HOUSING bosses have expressed their condolences after an elderly tenant died in a tragic flat blaze.
The 89-year-old man, who has not yet been formally named, died on Sunday in his Stockport home.
It is believed had been trying to cook some food but the pan caught fire shortly before 12.30pm, filling the apartment on Broadstone Road in North Reddish with smoke.
Emergency services tried to resuscitate the elderly man, but he died shortly afterwards.
The elderly residents of Russell Fox Court, which is made up of independent housing flats, expressed their shock.
One member of staff, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “This is a very difficult time and we are all devastated. He was a very active member of our community.”
Russell Fox Court district manager Sharon McDickens said: “We are deeply saddened by this tragic accident and our thoughts are with the tenant’s family and friends at this sad time.”
Fire crews wearing breathing gear found the pensioner collapsed in the flat. A statement from the housing scheme said: “Tenants were not evacuated as there was no risk to anyone else.”
A fire service spokeswoman said: “Firefighters were called to reports a fire alarm was sound- ing. When they got there, they found a man was inside the property.
“They carried him out and immediately carried
Google Street View out resuscitation while their colleagues put out a pan of food, but despite their best efforts, the man sadly died.”
