Help your town team

-

IN the days before all the local football clubs developed their academies and prior to any major organised junior football leagues started the main aim of any talented young footballer was firstly to get into the school team.

The pinnacle would then be to play for Stockport Boys, which was where local football scouts would attend to sign-up talented players.

Stockport Boys is still up and running, but it is in a poor state compared with other north west boroughs.

My son is one of a group of talented players who is proud to represent the town. However, we have had very little support and without the efforts of one coach in particular we would have folded.

Due to having little funds we have had to play all our matches away from home, we have had to train from 8pm to 9 pm on Fridays during the winter as it was the only available ‘free’ slot and every week we struggle to have enough kit to dress the full squad – to the extent that many parents have bought their own shorts and socks.

We have played at many north west venues where the opposition borough have full kit, high quality pitches, training tops and often will supply meals for the boys after the match. We cannot even offer them a pitch.

If anyone from local education, sports trust etc or any local businesses can help we would appreciate your support. Name and address supplied
