THERE are 13 award categories at this year’s Stockport Business Awards, and over the next few weeks we’ll be profiling each category. BUSINESS OF THE YEAR – TURNOVER UP T0 £1M

The Business of the Year (Turnover up to £1m) award celebrates the borough’s smaller businesses, which are at the heart of the business community.

The award, which is sponsored by Gorvins Solicitors, was won in 2014 by Essential Personnel, a recruitment agency ‘for Stockport’s bright sparks’.

The winning business in this category must demonstrate all round excellence and solid trading performance. Judges will be looking for what makes the business stand out from the crowd, and at specific strategies that have successfully driven growth.

Lorraine Lockie, managing partner at Gorvins, said: “We know that Stockport is a hot spot for startups and young, thriving businesses, and this award is a great opportunity to celebrate their successes.

“As a firm we have worked with major businesses from their early years and understand what hard work, energy and commitment is required to succeed.

“This is our fourth year sponsoring the awards and we’re delighted to be involved again. Each year the awards get bigger and better and we get to learn about even more successful and inspiring business from within the borough.” YOUNG BUSINESS PERSON OF THE YEAR

There are two awards for Business Person of the Year – the over 35 category, which recognises an individual who is established and respected in their field, and the under 35 category Young Business Person of the Year, which celebrates the success of a young candidate who is already making waves with much of their career still ahead of them.

This category is sponsored by Clarke Nicklin Financial Planning and last year the winner was Nick Rose, sales manager at Midshire Business Systems.

He has been the company’s top performing sales generator for the past five years.

Scott Herbert, a partner at Clarke Nicklin Financial Planning, said: “The winner of this award will be someone who has made a big impact early in their career, thanks to their driven nature, passion for what they do and a can-do attitude. We’re delighted to be sponsoring this award and recognising potential business leaders of the future.”

Entries are open until the end of June and winners will be announced at the ceremony at Stockport Town Hall on October 15.

Entry criteria and entry forms are available on the Stockport Business Awards website at stockportbusinessawards.co.uk.
