Hawk Green soar into the third round

HAWK Green eased through to the next round of the Bissenden Cup after a comfortabl­e home victory against Whaley Bridge.

Whaley Bridge could only post 135 all out, Neil Woolley with 49 and Sam Slack 30 as Pete Richards took 5-19. Richards then made 51 and J Henderson 67 as Hawk Green romped to 136 for 2.

There was an all Division 2 clash at Buxworth where visitors Buxton batted first and made 133 all out, Nick Smith scoring 31 having been invited back to the crease following a wrongful caught behind decision part way through his innings as Dan Gilbride took 3-30.

Aaron Benstead then anchored the Buxworth reply as he hit 50 to see his side to 137-4 and the next round. Dove Holes smashed 220-7 against Hollingwor­th, D Jones hitting 31 for the home side and Tom Forder 62 not out.

Hollingwor­th then slumped to 89 all out despite K Akram making 37 while K Jones took 5-22.

Hadfield batted first at Hayfield and scored an impressive 248 for 7, I Morten with 43 and Rick Tranter 82. However Russ Evans found form with 127, supported by G Wood with 39 and K Sharp’s 43 to see the home side to 249-4.

Mottram hosted New Mills and made 218-8 as Liam Tongue hit 50 and Oliver Andrew 78 not out while Dave Ward took 3-24. Ben Boardman then scored 30, M Birchenall 33 and S Mills 37 but it wasn’t enough as New Mills were bowled out for 175, Oliver Andrew taking 3-43 and Ayrton Fielding 4-28.

Compstall were bowled out for 174 at Newton, D Heginbotha­m making 69 as Lee Turner took 3-28. Phil Hammond then hit 41 and G Johnson 36 as Newton secured their place in Round three reaching 175-5.

Tintwistle batted first at home to Broadbotto­m and posted 186 for 7 as R Harris hit 56 and AJ Harris 48 not out. Ryan Welsh then hit a fine unbeaten 114 and J Dodd 44 as Broadbotto­m reached 187 for 4.

Old Glossop hosted Division 1 leaders Dinting and were bowled out for 144. Dinting knocking off the runs for the loss of three wickets.

In the Hawke Trophy, Woodley won the toss and batted first at home to Hayfield going on to make 183-7, P Cocks with 54 and T Bartlett 62 as Dave Aldridge took 3-12. T Hudson then hit 64, J Spencer 66 and Dave Aldridge 33 as Hayfield secured victory at 187-7, T Bartlett taking 3-8.

Broadbotto­m batted first at home to Old Glossop and made 178-7 with N Courtney hitting 62 and Joe Riley 37 as J Wright took 4-22. A Demidh then took 3-23 to help restrict Old Glossop to 164 all out.

Newton made the journey to Buxton and batting first reached 195-9 in their 40 overs, Mark Barnard with 81 as P Slater took 4-34. O Marrow then took 3-22 as Buxton fell short at 173-9.

Charleswot­h crumbled to the bowling of Hawk Green’s Logan Jeffs as he took 6-2 from 7 overs, reducing the home side to 39 all out as extras top scored with 12.

Hawk Green then lost three wickets in passing their target.

Compstall travelled to Dinting and posted 171-8 mainly thanks to 123 not out from Ravi Patel, B Thompson taking 3-5. Patel then took 3-11 and C Lloyd 3-18 as Dinting were bowled out for 104.

Mottram were bowled out for 120 by hosts Hadfield, who cruised to 123-3 in reply.

Tintwistle travelled to New Mills and made 133-7, S Morris with 58 as Jack Hadfield took 4-22. Hadfield then finished unbeaten on 49 with Rory Dolan making 31 as New Mills passed their target for the loss of five wickets.
