IT failure led to hospital cancelling 18 operations
PATIENTS at Stepping Hill have seen their operations cancelled because of hospital computer failures.
Bosses at the hospital had to postpone 18 procedures after their IT systems malfunctioned on Thursday.
They have issued an apology to the patients affected and are set to reschedule the operations and tests for the coming days.
A spokeswoman for the hospital, in Hazel Grove, said disruption to patients and the ‘several hundred procedures’ carried out that day was kept to a minimum.
She said: “Stepping Hill experienced an IT systems failure, which had been largely resolved by the late afternoon.
“Our contingency plans were put in place straight away and no patients were at risk at any point.
“Thanks to the hard work of staff, disruption to patients was kept to an absolute minimum.
“Of the several hundred procedures, such as operations and tests, taking place at the hospital unfortunately a total of 18 procedures had to be postponed.
“We have apologised to the 18 patients affected and will reschedule their procedures as soon as possible.”
