I’VE been privileged to visit the Sacred Heart Primary School in Gorton to meet some charming children and dedicated teachers.

The school is led by inspirational headteacher Suzanne Walker who, together with her deputy David Wilson, provides an inclusive, caring atmosphere for the youngsters to grow and learn.

David Wilson also acts as the link between the school and the community and they’re celebrating a milestone in a couple of weeks.

SAFE Gorton is a community project within the parish of Sacred Heart and St Francis in Gorton, Manchester.

It was set up in February 2011 for the benefit of all members of the community of Gorton and the aim is to provide a safe, friendly place for everyone to enjoy and feel connected.

One of the major activities is the Ambition Music Project which brings young people together from all backgrounds, including those hardest to reach, in a creative and stimulating environment.

Saturday, July 4, sees the grand opening of Ladybird Studio during the Ambition’s Beyond The Lights Concert.

Interestingly, the studio has been financed with money obtained through the Proceeds of Crime Act.

They’ve been able to use that money to buy materials and equipment, but the finished product has only been made possible by the creative genius and tireless voluntary contribution of Allan Donoghue.

Proper community action and very impressive.
