YOBS LOCK UP

-

HAPLESS yobs who broke into a garage and smashed it up were rescued by firefighters after they locked themselves in.

The gang of five teenagers had got into a garage on Handley Close, Bridgehall, on Saturday at 5pm.

Once inside they damaged property but shut the door and accidentally broke the lock as part of their wrecking spree.

They could not get out and a passerby heard the commotion and found the garage owner who called firefighters. Crews were able to prise the garage door open and free the youths.

Police were called to the incident and, although they did not arrest the teens, they will be taking further action.

Inspector Neil Cook said: “We will make arrangements to see them.”

He added that no arrests were made at the time as officers needed to be free to respond to incidents on Saturday night and processes such as finding appropriate adults for interviews would have tied up manpower at a busy time of the week.
