KITCHEN BLAZE
A MAN was taken to hospital after he tackled a fire in his home to protect his family.
The 48-year-old suffered smoke inhalation from the kitchen blaze in a house on Criccieth Road, Cheadle Heath, on Tuesday evening.
Two girls aged six and seven were also taken to hospital as a precaution.
The fire began when their mum left a pan with oil on an electric cooker and it overheated.
Although the man put out the flames using damp tea towels it filled the downstairs with smoke and damaged the kitchen.
Firefighters were called shortly after 7pm and ensured the smouldering pan was fully out before venting the property.
The fire service praised the dad’s quick thinking. Matt Rooney, watch manager at King Street station, added: “The mum was distracted by the kids and the pan burst into flames.”
