Meeting house is now open
THE new ‘green’ meeting house for Stockport Quakers on Cooper Street has opened its doors to the public.
The building, designed to be sustainable and ‘carbon neutral’ in the design and materials, has two meeting rooms, a kitchen and a Friends’ room with a library.
The Mayor of Stockport, Coun Kevin Hogg, was amongst the guests at the opening and visitors were able to enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake after they had been given a tour of the new building.
The new build replaces the previous Meeting House, demolished last September after it became no longer economical to repair.
The new Meeting House is available throughout the week for community groups and organisations to hire for their meetings and events.
The project to build the new centre was led by the East Cheshire Area Quaker Meeting, which contributed £200,000 of its own funds to the project.
