Film star opens revamped young peoples’ centre

-

ACTRESS and author Jane Asher has opened a newly-renovated respite service for young people with autism.

The star of films such as Alfie and Deep End unveiled the revamped Meridian centre at the Together Trust in Cheadle following it’s £210,000 transformation.

She was joined by parents and staff for the launch of the redesigned centre, which now features a state-of-the-art sensory room funded by the Together Trust and Meridian staff.

The facility also now boasts a computer room, a games room, themed bedrooms, a new kitchen and two new wet rooms.

Ms Asher said: “The new facilities at Meridian are excellent. I have seen many sensory rooms but this is by far the best.

“The centre will give young people a relaxing place to recuperate among fantastic surroundings.”

Sarah Hopwood, manager of Meridian, added: “Meridian prides itself on working with every young person in a diverse way that is unique to them.

“We are certain the effort and time spent in refurbishing the building will help to ensure every stay is a positive and memorable experience for the young people who visit us for years to come.”
