Rain can’t dampen party atmosphere

-

CROWDS flocked to Poynton’s Party In the Park on Saturday raising more than £15,000 for charity.

And in true English style, they didn’t let the weather put them off as they danced to live music, cheered and waved flags.

The event, a highlight in the town’s social calendar for around ten years now, is organised by the Rotary Club.

A programme of music spanning six decades including The Screaming Beavers, Monkey Harris, Under the Covers, Leroy Lurve Entertainer Extraordinaire and the Vernon Building Society Poynton Brass Band made for a ‘magical’ party for young and old alike.

Picnics were enjoyed and gazebos were abuzz with friends and neighbours reunited.

Garth Aspinall, from the Rotary Club, said: “It went very well. There was a little bit of rain but not enough to spoil the fun.

“It is a family day and also very much a Poynton family affair, but people did come from outside too.

“It gives people the opportunity to mix with each other.”

He added: “We would like to thank people for coming. Everyone was in very good spirits and the atmosphere was great.”
