Band has a refreshing sound
A BAND whose members hail from Marple and Bredbury were named runners up in a national music competition.
Strangeways were picked by Manchester music legend Clint Boon and 80 Hertz producer George Atkins to be finalists in brewery JW Lees’ Refreshing Sounds contest.
They played at the inaugural Refreshing Sounds gig at Gullivers in Manchester alongside fellow runners-up Feed the Kid and competition winners King Kartel.
Former Inspiral Carpets member and radio DJ Clint said: “The lads from Strangeways are a great example of the high level of talent constantly brewing in Manchester.
“They’ve got the lyrical prowess of The Smiths with the urgency of The Courteeners, and they kicked off the Refreshing Sounds gig with a bang.
I look forward to hearing them play again soon around Manchester.
“There was a cracking turnout for all the lads at Gullivers and the atmosphere was buzzing.”
Managing director of JW Lees William Lees- Jones said: “Some amazing, talented bands entered but it takes being heard to be recognised – Refreshing Sounds has always been about drawing attention to unsigned bands and it’s really worked well.”
