Rule is Young’s newest recruit

-

GLENN Rule has become the sixth summer signing of Neil Young’s Stockport County revolution at Edgeley Park.

The 25-year-old, who played for the boss at Colwyn Bay, has joined the Hatters from Airbus UK for an undisclosed fee.

Born in Birkenhead, Rule is the latest player to sign on at Edgeley Park since Young took charge last month.

“He is a midfielder who can play in defence and he also has a great attitude,” Young said. “I’ve worked with him before and he fits the type of profile we want.

“He has come on leaps and bounds in the last two years working under (Airbus UK boss) Andy Preece.”

Rule came through the ranks at Chester City, making his debut aged 17 against Carlisle United in October 2007.

He stayed with Chester until early in 2010, when the club’s financial woes saw them expelled from the Conference before being wound up in the High Court. As a result, Rule made the move to Colwyn Bay where he linked up with the current County manager.

Rule then spent time with Stalybridge Celtic before he joined Airbus UK in 2011.

His four years with the Wingmakers yielded 104 league appearances, netting on a dozen occasions, and also saw him feature in their Europa League campaigns.

“The move came completely out of the blue, Glenn had just signed a two-year deal with us but then Stockport came in for him,” said Airbus boss and former County striker Preece. “We wouldn’t stand in the way of any player who wants to better himself and Glenn has been extremely loyal to us, he is the only squad player remaining from when we took over three-and-ahalf-years ago.”

Rule follows Sean O’Hanlon, Danny Morton, Gareth Roberts, Karl Ledsham and Lamin Colley in putting pen to paper on deals for next season.
