A SCHEME that sees retired police officers offer their services as handymen has launched in Stockport.

Trust in Blue local handymen service is a national scheme that aims to combat dodgy tradespeople by offering residents and businesses a service they can trust, and is now available in Stockport, Bredbury and Marple.

One of the ex-officers taking part is Norman Lawrence, 53, from Glossop, who retired from the force three years ago.

He said: “When I retired, I always knew I’d want to do something because I’m quite a busy person, but I didn’t want crazy hours or a lot of pressure like what I had in the police service so it was finding something that I thought was both good for me and other people.

“The service we offer is a big help to many without being pressurised.”

Managing director of Trust in Blue, Nick Orde-Powlett, said: “All of our handymen are friendly, retired police officers with many years working in the local community under their belt. They understand peoples’ concerns and fears better than anyone else and they genuinely care.”
