Tribute day will help dad Dave
THE loved ones of a man who died on a stag do are supporting a terminally ill dad’s bucket list.
Friends of Lee Mairs, who died aged 24 in Tenerife, are holding their fourth annual football tournament in his memory.
Lee, from Bredbury, died after he was found unconscious with a head injury outside his holiday apartment in 2012.
Proceeds from the event will go to Dave Hopwood, from Rochdale, who received the devastating news he has inoperable kidney cancer in March, when doctors said he could have just months to live.
An appeal has been launched to help him make the best of his time with son Josh, 15, whose mum, Vicky, is the cousin of Lee’s dad, Darren.
Everyone is welcome to the tournament, which takes place at Stockport RUFC on Headlands Road, Bramall, on Saturday, July 4, from 10am.
As well as the football, there will be a family fun day with food, a bouncy castle, face painting, children’s activities, live music, a DJ and raffle.
