I’m not a Cameron ‘cutie’ says new MP
ONE of Stockport’s new MPs has given his Parliamentary colleagues a geography lesson.
Tory new boy William Wragg cheekily criticised members for thinking ‘Hazel Grove’ was one of Prime Minister David Cameron’s new ‘cuties’.
The former Stockport councillor and teacher used his maiden speech in the Commons to give MPs a little geography lesson - before waxing lyrical about the history of his home constituency.
Mr Wragg, 27, said: “It is the greatest honour of my life to be elected to this house as member of Parliament for my lifelong home of Hazel Grove.
“Since arriving at this house, I’ve been very disappointed by honourable members’ geography skills.
“Clearly some work to be done there.
“When I say ‘Hazel Grove’, the question, all too often, has been ‘where’s that?’. Saying near Stockport helps a some; near Manchester helps a few more.
“But so far, ‘the north’ has sufficed for most.
“Indeed, several honourable members have enquired not where, but rather who, this newbie by the name of ‘Hazel Grove’ is – only to be disappointed that she is not one of Cameron’s cuties.”
