Campaign to save historic ground

-

STOCKPORT County fans are urging council bosses to save their historic ground from being potentially knocked down by developers.

Fans have now set up an online petition, urging council bosses to do ‘everything in their power’ to save Edgeley Park – County’s home for over a century.

The petition, which has already gathered more than 1,500 signatures, reads: “We call on Stockport Council to do everything in its power to stop third-party developers from gaining ownership – even if it means purchasing the ground itself.

“The club is a community asset and it should not be left at the hands of developers, who have the intention of removing Stockport County from their home and knocking down the ground.

“This petition is a message to all councillors that the people of Stockport will not stand by and watch one the town’s most iconic landmarks become rubble.”

Fans are also considering gathering outside Stockport Town Hall on tomorrow ahead of a crunch executive meeting on the ‘strategic purchase’ – despite the fact it will be held in private due to the ‘commercial sensitivity’ of the proposed deal.
